Its Wednesday and I am facing the mid week crises. Friday is too far, Monday blues are still here and I woke up early trying to get grip on my to-do list. We are expanding and so is my waistline, but that will be food for thought for some other day. In order to take my mind off while being driven to work, a random thought crossed my mind. What will be my background music? You know like you have it in movies when, lets say, Shehenshah Akbar is walking in, so the background music will be ‘Azeem-o-shaan shehenshah’.. you get the drift, right! So I was contemplating which one should it be for moi? And I realized just the song for this kinda thing…
it will be hud hud dabangg, dabangg, dabangg!!! Ok this one will not be from Dabangg 1 but the Dabangg reloaded song from Dabangg 2. Call me crazy but there is a difference between the two. OK!
You may want to know why Dabangg… I mean I could have ‘Phoolon ka taron ka sabka kehna hai’ as my background score too since I am everyone’s didi. I mean I do have quite a lot of followers who call me didi or behenji and I m mighty proud of it too… Or I can have Meredith Brook’s ‘I am a bitch’ as my theme song, considering a lot of people use the adjective for me every single day! But, no it has to be Dabangg Reloaded. And there is a reason for it.
Morning while I was in gym, a very interesting thing happened. As I was getting ready to leave, someone said that a woman was trampling his mat the whole time and he had to change the mat like 3 times, however, to no avail. He said since you are dabangg only you can speak to the lady and educate her on gym mannerism. By the time, I would have gone to educate her, that lady had leftand the opportunity was lost, however there is always tomorrow!
One of the challenges that people in general face is the over-reliance on being nice. I mean we all are required to be nice, we choose to be nice, that is how the social fabric is woven. But, my question is should we allow people to trample us, being completely inconsiderate to a fellow human-being? When is it the right time to point out the other person’s wrong? What should be the threshold for niceties, if at all such threshold exists?
I have had the privilege of knowing many people who are very clear about their boundaries and I feel, it is so important to respect such people. It takes a lot of guts, in my opinion, to establish boundaries but it takes more effort in determining where the boundaries exist or carve it out. I like people who say No pointedly over people who say Yes just because they don’t know how to say No. I learnt it the hard way but I guess, there is not other way to learn it and so many times, I feel really bad that I don’t say ‘No’ enough and get stuck into things.
Anyway coming back to my song!! Yeah the reloaded Dabangg song and not the normal Dabangg song. Told you, there is a difference. There is another story which I remembered just now.. So you know how the arranged marriage setup in India is like. So this is a story of I guess 2007, some 12 years back. I had just come back from Australia, had started to work – all of 24 years of age and my parents thought it was an opportune time for me to be hitched. My parents and my brother went to see this boy and you know, my brother asked him who his fav actor was, to which this boy/man replied Salman Khan. When my brother came back, he told me everything about his dog, about Divya Bharti and then added, oh by the way, he likes Salman Khan. And the deal was sealed. I needed someone who had the most pedestrian taste in Bollywood just as I did. Over the years, however, I have changed considerably. From a docile girl who could never say ‘No’ to being called ‘dabangg’ today. I guess, I have only Salman Khan to blame for the ruckus.
(hud hud dabangg dabangg dabangg! …. And the music fades…)
